Greek Migrant Literature in the Early Roman Empire

Abstract This article argues that the concept of migrant literature, developed in postcolonial studies, is a useful tool for analysing Greek literature Early Roman Empire (27 BC-AD 68). The city Rome attracted huge numbers migrants from across Mediterranean. Among them were many writers Hellenized provinces like Egypt, Syria and Asia, who wrote Greek. Leaving their native regions travelling to Rome, they moved between cultures, responding new world order. imperial include Strabo Amasia, Dionysius Halicarnassus, Nicolaus Damascus, Timagenes Alexandria, Crinagoras Mytilene, Philo Alexandria Paul Tarsus. What connects these authors very different origins, styles, beliefs, literary genres migrancy. They are whose works characterized by in-betweenness, ambivalence polyphony.
